When to

resole?

Knowing when to resole your climbing shoes can make the difference between a simple, affordable repair and a shoe that’s beyond saving. The goal is to catch wear early—before it breaks through the rand or damages the upper. Use the examples below as a visual guide to help you decide when it’s time to send your shoes in (and when it might already be too late).

Boom. This is the sweet spot.
This shoe is ready for a half sole repair only and does not require a rand repair. Catching your shoes at this stage is the most proactive—and cost-effective—time to resole.

Good to go | Still Eligible, but don't wait

This pair is ready for a resole, though slightly overdue. Shoes at this stage are still very repairable, but continued use could push them into needing a rand repair.

One of the easiest indicators that it’s time to resole is the sole edge line.
When the line begins to dip downward, lose its uniform shape, or thin out at the toe, it’s time to send them in.
Resoling at this point can help you avoid a rand repair and save money.

Still a good candidate

This shoe requires both a sole and rand repair, but it’s still in good shape overall. A hole is beginning to form, though the rubber has not fully worn through to the leather upper.
If your shoes look like this—send them in immediately.

Last Call | Barely eligible

This shoe is right on the edge of being too worn. While it’s still eligible for repair, it will require both a half sole and a rand repair.
This is essentially the limit. If your shoes look like this:
- Stop climbing in them immediately
- Send them to us as soon as possible

Too Late | Not Eligible for repair

This shoe is no longer eligible for repair. The leather upper beneath the rand has split, making a proper repair impossible.
Don’t wait until this point.

Beyond Repair | Please do not send in

This pair is completely past the point of repair. Extensive wear through the rand and into the upper prevents a quality resole.
Please note: Shoes in this condition should not be dropped off or shipped. If sent in and you request them back, return shipping will be at the customer’s expense and no repair will be performed.
