MY STORY
Thank you for checking out San Juan Resole! San Juan Resole is a humbly run, cobbling and resole shop rooted in the San Juan Mountains located just west of town in Durango, Colorado. SJR serves as a mountain footwear repair hub for the Four Corners Region here in SW Colorado but welcomes orders from all over the country. Currently, we are specializing in trail running, approach, climbing, road running, and Birkenstock shoes (possibility of other repairs- shoot us an email).
My name is Scott Vinsel, I am the sole owner and head cobbler here at SJR. After growing up in North Carolina and cutting my teeth in the southern Appalachian Mountains around Boone, NC, I headed to Wyoming where I got my ticket west while working for the American Alpine Club at the Grand Teton Climbers’ Ranch. Since then, I have bounced around the west living in Idaho, Utah, and various parts of Colorado working a variety of jobs largely centered around sustainable agriculture, eventually settling here in Durango, Colorado. As a trail/mountain runner, rock climber, skier, and mountain biker, there are few places in the country that offer the access and diversity of terrain as we are lucky enough to have on hand here with the San Juan Mountains at our doorstep and the high desert just down the road.
One of the catalysts in opening this service to the community here in SW Colorado was to promote a more sustainable approach to increasing the longevity and lifespan of your footwear. With a background in Sustainable Development, I try to always promote these ethics when possible in my personal life and am excited I have found a way to instill these ideals into the community. It is our goal to provide the utmost quality of craftsmanship and service to those who trust SJR with their beloved footwear.
When I am not in the workshop, you can find me up in the hills (likely in the La Plata Mountains), bouldering in the boulder fields around town, biking in the summer and skiing in the winter in the high country, or just hanging out with my wife, Kass, and our two dogs, Jade and Finny. Our goal here at SJR is to be a staple in the outdoor community to advocate for increased longevity of your footwear as well provide customization that allows you to perform your best out in the mountains or just cruising around town.
